The Lord has become my protector and has led me into a spacious place; he has saved me because he loves me (Ps 17:19ff).

A healthy attitude that is pleasing to God is to “turn away from evil” and abandon injustice. Those who are willing to follow Jesus need to detach themselves from material goods. Let us celebrate the Eucharist with these good dispositions.

First Reading: Sirach 35:1-15

A reading from the Book of Sirach – 1He who keeps the law offers many offerings; 2he who observes the precepts offers a salutary sacrifice.[3] 4He who gives thanks offers fine flour, and he who does good offers a sacrifice of praise. 5 It pleases the Lord to turn away from evil, and it appeases him to turn away from injustice. 6 Do not come before God empty-handed, 7 for all this is done by command. 8 The sacrifice of the righteous enriches the altar; its aroma ascends to the Most High. 9 The offering of the righteous is acceptable, and his memory will not be forgotten. 10 Honor the Lord with a generous heart, and do not hold back the firstfruits you bring. 11 Bring all your offerings with a cheerful countenance, and consecrate your tithe with joy. 12 Give to God as he has given you, and give generously, according to your ability; 13 for he is a God who repays you, and he will repay you sevenfold. 14 Do not try to corrupt him with gifts; he will not accept them; 15Do not trust in unjust sacrifice, for the Lord is a judge who shows no partiality. – The Word of the Lord.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark – At that time, 28Peter began to say to Jesus: “Behold, we have left everything and followed you.” 29Jesus answered: “Truly, I say to you, everyone who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and the sake of the gospel, 30will receive a hundred times as much now in this age – homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields, with persecutions – and in the age to come eternal life. 31Many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first.” – Word of salvation.

Reflection:

To understand today’s Gospel well, we need to revisit the reflection that the liturgy proposed to us yesterday. We saw that, to be true disciples, we need to renounce all idols, especially money and material goods, and open ourselves fully to God, our only Lord. The reward for this effort is presented in today’s Gospel, that is, whoever manages to leave home, family, fields or any other material possession will receive a hundredfold. This means that observing the Commandments, giving alms and practicing justice are as pleasing to God as sacrifice and ritual offering. At the same time that we actively participate in the Eucharist, we must act with dignity, reflecting our love for God and our neighbor in our relationships. The reward for all this is that we will receive a hundredfold more for everything we give, because we will be members of a great family that is the Church.

O Senhor tornou-se meu protetor e me conduziu para um lugar espaçoso; ele me salvou, porque me ama (Sl 17,19s).

Atitude salutar e agradável a Deus é “afastar-se do mal” e abandonar a injustiça. Quem se dispõe a seguir Jesus precisa desapegar-se dos bens materiais. Celebremos a Eucaristia com essas boas disposições.

Primeira Leitura: Eclesiástico 35,1-15

Leitura do livro do Eclesiástico – 1Aquele que guarda a lei faz muitas oferendas; 2aquele que cumpre os preceitos oferece um sacrifício salutar.[3] 4Aquele que mostra agradecimento oferece flor de farinha, e o que pratica a beneficência oferece um sacrifício de louvor. 5O que agrada ao Senhor é afastar-se do mal, e o que o aplaca é deixar a injustiça. 6Não te apresentes na presença de Deus de mãos vazias, 7porque tudo isso se faz em virtude do preceito. 8O sacrifício do justo enriquece o altar, o seu perfume sobe ao Altíssimo. 9A oblação do justo é aceitável, e sua memória não cairá no esquecimento. 10Honra ao Senhor com coração generoso e não regateies as primícias que apresentares. 11Faze todas as tuas oferendas com semblante sereno, e com alegria consagra o teu dízimo. 12Dá a Deus segundo a doação que ele te fez, e com generosidade, conforme as tuas posses; 13porque ele é um Deus retribuidor e te recompensará sete vezes mais. 14Não tentes corrompê-lo com presentes: ele não os aceita; 15nem confies em sacrifício injusto, porque o Senhor é um juiz que não faz discriminação de pessoas. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos – Naquele tempo, 28começou Pedro a dizer a Jesus: “Eis que nós deixamos tudo e te seguimos”. 29Respondeu Jesus: “Em verdade vos digo, quem tiver deixado casa, irmãos, irmãs, mãe, pai, filhos, campos, por causa de mim e do Evangelho, 30receberá cem vezes mais agora, durante esta vida – casa, irmãos, irmãs, mães, filhos e campos, com perseguições -, e, no mundo futuro, a vida eterna. 31Muitos que agora são os primeiros serão os últimos. E muitos que agora são os últimos serão os primeiros”. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

Para compreendermos bem o Evangelho de hoje, é preciso retomar a reflexão que a liturgia nos propôs ontem. Vimos que, para ser verdadeiros discípulos, precisamos renunciar a todos os ídolos, sobretudo o dinheiro e os bens materiais, e nos abrir plenamente a Deus, nosso único Senhor. A recompensa desse esforço é apresentada no Evangelho de hoje, ou seja, todo aquele que conseguir deixar casa, família, campos ou qualquer outro bem material receberá cem vezes mais. Isso significa que a observância dos Mandamentos, a esmola e a prática da justiça são tão agradáveis a Deus quanto o sacrifício e a oferta ritual. Ao mesmo tempo que temos uma participação ativa na Eucaristia, devemos agir dignamente, refletindo nos relacionamentos o nosso amor a Deus e ao próximo. A recompensa de tudo isso é que receberemos cem vezes mais de tudo aquilo que dermos, pois seremos membros de uma grande família que é a Igreja.
