At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: 36 "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. 37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your lap. For with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Reflection

1. As children, because of the Son Jesus Christ, disciples must be true gifts to their brothers and to humanity. How? In what way? Luke, in verses 36-38, gives the following answer: be merciful, as the Father is merciful; judge no one, so that you will not be judged; condemn no one, so that you will not be condemned; forgive, so that you will be forgiven; give, so that you will receive. In other words, Jesus wants his disciples to be only kind to everyone and to be, for everyone, the visible expression of God’s love, keeping their eyes closed to people’s defects, so that, by looking at their innermost being, they can lead them to salvation.

2. How is this possible? There is no answer within ourselves. There is no point in wanting to act on our own, thinking that we will be “nice” to others simply for personal reasons. We call this illusion, naivety, the fantasy of a pseudo-expression of faith. No one is good. The heart of man is evil from his youth (cf. Gen 8:21). For his own sake, man seeks power with pleasure, in order to dominate everything and have everything, even a life of pleasure according to his own instinct. From this reality nothing emerges that is in keeping with God’s will, with the goodness desired by the Lord for every creature. Starting from his own will, man manifests his animality, his existence as a rational or carnal man, a common figure in the context of a mentality focused on the most hidden feelings of his unconscious. Can this man, living in this way, be merciful like God? Be good to others? Without God, this is impossible.

3. In order to act like God, man must necessarily bow before the Good, the Truth, go out of himself and embrace the will of God. It is mandatory that he have an authentic encounter with Christ, the Image of the Father. He will not be able to resemble God if he does not listen to the voice of the Beloved (cf. Mt 17:5). Being good is a characteristic of God, who is Love by definition (cf. 1 Jn 4:8). So being good to others means, above all, participating in the love of God. In other words, being intimate with the Lord, walking with Him, allowing oneself to be enveloped by Him, becoming ONE with Him. How is this possible? Through Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the only Road to salvation (cf. Jn 14:6). The Apostles learned from Jesus while they lived with Him, experiencing Him in the daily lives of His actions for the greater good in people’s lives, in the teachings of faith and morality, in healings and miracles, in the contemplation of God and in their life of prayer. Even more so when they experienced the new life brought by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who gave them the Spirit of Truth. Imbued with God, the Apostles were able to act as reflections of God himself for the good of people, especially for their liberation in the context of daily life and salvation.

Are we committed to doing good? Are we enchanted by divine mercy? Do we feel like children of love? Do we overcome our miseries in God?

Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: 36 "Sede misericordiosos, como também o vosso Pai é misericordioso. 37Não julgueis e não sereis julgados; não condeneis e não sereis condenados; perdoai, e sereis perdoados. 38 Dai e vos será dado. Uma boa medida, calcada, sacudida, transbordante será colocada no vosso colo; porque com a mesma medida com que medirdes os outros, vós também sereis medidos".

Reflexão

1. Como filhos, por causa do Filho Jesus Cristo, os discípulos devem ser verdadeiros dons para os irmãos e para a humanidade. Como? De que forma? Lc, nos versículos de 36-38, dá a seguinte resposta: ser misericordioso, como o Pai é misericordioso; não julgar ninguém, para não ser julgado; não condenar, para não ser condenado; perdoar, para ser perdoado; dar, para receber. Em outras palavras, Jesus deseja que em seus discípulos haja somente bondade para com todos e que sejam, para todos, a expressão visível do amor de Deus, mantendo seus olhos fechados para os defeitos das pessoas, a fim de, olhando o mais íntimo delas, conduzi-las à salvação.

2. Como isso é possível? Em nós mesmos não existe resposta. Não adianta querer agir por conta própria, achando que será “bonzinho” para os outros simplesmente por razões pessoais. A isso chamamos ilusão, ingenuidade, fantasia de uma pseudo-expressão de fé. Ninguém é bom. O coração do homem é mau desde a sua juventude (cf. Gn 8,21). Por si mesmo, o homem procura prazerosamente o poder, a fim de dominar tudo e ter todas as coisas, até mesmo uma vida de prazer segundo seu próprio instinto. Dessa realidade não brota nada que condiga com a vontade de Deus, com a bondade querida pelo Senhor para toda criatura. Partindo de sua própria vontade, o homem manifesta sua animalidade, seu existir como homem racional ou carnal, figura comum no contexto de uma mentalidade voltada para os sentimentos mais ocultos do seu inconsciente. Pode esse homem, vivendo dessa forma, ser misericordioso como Deus? Ser bom para o outro? Sem Deus isso é impossível.

3. Necessariamente, para agir como Deus, o homem tem de dobrar-se diante do Bom, da Verdade, sair de si mesmo e abraçar a vontade de Deus. É obrigatório que tenha um autêntico encontro com Cristo, Imagem do Pai. Não será capaz de assemelhar-se a Deus quem não escutar a voz do Amado (cf. Mt 17,5). Ser bom é característica própria de Deus, que é o Amor por definição (cf. 1Jo 4,8). Então ser bom para o outro significa, antes de tudo, participar do amor de Deus. Em outras palavras, ser íntimo do Senhor, caminhar com Ele, deixar-se envolver por Ele, fazer-se UM com Ele. Como isso é possível? Por meio de Jesus Cristo, que é o Caminho, a única Estrada da salvação (cf. Jo 14,6). Os Apóstolos aprenderam de Jesus enquanto viviam com Ele, experimentando-o no dia a dia de Suas ações em benefício do bem maior na vida das pessoas, nos ensinamentos da fé e da moral, nas curas e milagres, na contemplação de Deus e na vida de oração. Mais ainda, quando experimentaram a vida nova trazida pela ressurreição de Jesus Cristo, que lhes deu o Espírito da Verdade. Imbuídos de Deus, os Apóstolos puderam agir como reflexos do mesmo Deus para o bem das pessoas, principalmente para a libertação delas no contexto da vida cotidiana e da salvação.
