Jesus is faced with the openness of a people in need of truth and the rejection of the Pharisees. For the disciples and the people, Jesus performs miracles, teaches with authority and casts out demons; but for the hypocritical Pharisees, he gives them a terribly severe silence as a denial of their unbelief, of the temptation they provoke, of the manifestation of a faith as a spectacle, of the demanding rationality they desire, without any deep interiorization of the truth that is God, manifested in Jesus Christ. In truth, they cannot bear Jesus as the Messiah of God and, for this very reason, they close their eyes to the presence of their Lord among them.

2. God cannot be placed within the limits set by men. God does not fit into our schemes, our foolish pretensions. Our rational world is blind before God, but it is, on the other hand, extremely proud, believing itself capable of limiting even God. In this text, the Pharisees represent all the desire for divine manipulation desired by rational man. They want proof that God is really acting, even though the miracles, teachings, and testimony of love performed by Jesus are right there before them. They live in a context of messianic expectation, but they are closed to the Messiah, because they do not want to lose the position they have conquered in history. In other words, they do not want to lose the divine place they have assumed, expelling God the Savior himself.

3. Faith is the whole person's adherence to God and his work; it is the person's total involvement with what he loves; it is throwing oneself fearlessly into God, allowing oneself to be led by Him; it is a gift from God, acquired by listening to his Word and not by reflecting on the world. Faith is a GIFT. Such faith is not perceived by Jesus in the Pharisees. In that "deep sigh", Mark shows Jesus' disappointment with them and his silence in the face of their unbelief. Because of this unbelief and infidelity combined, these people first became slaves of Babylon, but now, acting in the same way, they are not only becoming slaves, but also rejected, not by God’s will, but by their own choice and blindly. Through Jesus, the Father forms His New People, with the New and Eternal Covenant. It is in Christ that the Father will have His People.

Jesus está diante da abertura de um povo necessitado da verdade e da rejeição dos fariseus. Para os discípulos e para o povo, Jesus realiza milagres, ensina com autoridade e expulsa os demônios; mas para os fariseus hipócritas, dá-lhes o silêncio terrivelmente severo como negação da incredulidade deles, da tentação que provocam, da manifestação de uma fé como espetáculo, da racionalidade exigente que desejam, sem nenhuma profunda interiorização da verdade que é Deus, manifestado em Jesus Cristo. Na verdade, eles não suportam Jesus como Messias de Deus e, por isso mesmo, cerram seus olhos para a presença do seu Senhor entre eles.

 

2. Não se pode colocar Deus nos limites traçados pelos homens. Deus não entra nos nossos esquemas, nas nossas pretensões tolas. O nosso mundo racional é cego diante de Deus, mas é, por outro lado, altamente orgulhoso, concebendo-se capaz de limitar até mesmo Deus. Os fariseus representam, nesse texto, todo o desejo de manipulação divina desejado pelo homem racional. Eles querem a prova de que Deus está realmente agindo, mesmo estando ali diante deles os milagres, os ensinamentos, o testemunho do amor realizados por Jesus. Vivem num contexto de expectativa messiânica, mas são fechados para o Messias, pois não querem perder o posto que conquistaram na história. Em outras palavras, não querem perder o lugar divino que assumiram, expulsando o próprio Deus salvador.

 

3. A fé é adesão da pessoa toda a Deus e a sua obra; é o total envolvimento da pessoa com o que ela ama; é o lançar-se sem medo em Deus, deixando-se conduzir por Ele; é um dom de Deus, adquirido pela escuta de sua Palavra e não da reflexão diante do mundo. A fé é DOM. Tal fé não é percebida por Jesus nos fariseus. Naquele "suspiro profundo", Mc mostra a decepção de Jesus com eles e seu silêncio diante da incredulidade por eles manifestada. Por causa dessa incredulidade e infidelidade juntas, esse povo tornou-se, antes, escravo da Babilônia, mas agora, agindo do mesmo modo, não está somente se tornando escravo, mas também rejeitado não por vontade de Deus, mas por escolha própria e de modo cego. Por meio de Jesus, o Pai forma seu Novo Povo, com a Nova e Eterna Aliança. É em Cristo que o Pai terá o Seu Povo.
