Let all the earth worship you with reverence and proclaim the praise of your name, O Most High (Ps 65:4).

The crowds come to Jesus, seeking deliverance from their evils. We too, gathered here, implore his help, confident that “he always lives to intercede” for us before the Father. Let us celebrate the grace of the Lord, which comes to meet our history.

First Reading: Hebrews 7:25-8:6

Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews – Brothers and sisters, 25Jesus is able to save forever those who draw near to God through him. He always lives to intercede for them. 26This is the kind of high priest who was right for us: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27He does not need to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people, as the high priests do. He did this once for all by offering himself. 28For the law appointed high priests subject to weakness, while the word of the oath, which came after the law, appointed one who is a Son, perfected forever. 8:1 This is the weight of our argument: We have such a great high priest, who has sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven. 2He is a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tent, which was set up by the Lord, not by human hands. 3For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; therefore he must have something to offer. 4For if Christ were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, for there are those who offer gifts according to the law. 5They worship in a copy and shadow of the heavenly realms, just as Moses was told when he was about to build the tent: “See that you make everything according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.” 6But now Christ has a better ministry, for he is the mediator of a better covenant, based on better promises. – The Word of the Lord.

Gospel: Mark 3,7-12

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Jesus Christ the Savior has destroyed evil and death; / through the Gospel he has made light and life everlasting shine (2 Tim 1,10). – R.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark – At that time, 7Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples. A large crowd from Galilee followed him. 8A large crowd from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, across the Jordan, and the region of Tyre and Sidon also came to Jesus, because they had heard about all that he was doing. 9Then Jesus asked his disciples to get him a boat because of the crowd, so that they would not crowd him. 10For Jesus had healed many people, and all who were suffering from some kind of illness were pressing forward to touch him. 11When the evil spirits saw Jesus, they fell at his feet and cried out, “You are the Son of God!” 12But Jesus strictly ordered them not to tell anyone who he was. – Word of salvation.

Reflection:

The wonderful signs performed by Jesus attracted crowds from all over Palestine. Everyone ran to him to be healed, to the point that the disciples feared for their safety and prepared a strategy that today we would call an “emergency exit.” Jesus, however, continues his mission, tirelessly, in the synagogue, in the houses or by the lake. No one is excluded, not even his adversaries. Interestingly, it is the unclean spirits who recognize the divinity of Jesus, proclaiming, “You are the Son of God!”, while the Jews saw him only as a kind of “healer” or, at best, as a prophet. The time had not yet come. It would take a long time for him to be accepted and recognized as the way, the truth and the life, the long-awaited Messiah.

Toda a terra vos adore com respeito e proclame o louvor do vosso nome, ó Altíssimo (Sl 65,4).

As multidões vão ao encontro de Jesus, buscando a libertação de seus males. Nós também, aqui reunidos, imploramos seu auxílio, confiantes que “ele está sempre vivo para interceder” por nós ao Pai. Celebremos a graça do Senhor, que vem ao encontro de nossa história.

Primeira Leitura: Hebreus 7,25-8,6

Leitura da carta aos Hebreus – Irmãos, 25Jesus é capaz de salvar para sempre aqueles que, por seu intermédio, se aproximam de Deus. Ele está sempre vivo para interceder por eles. 26Tal é precisamente o sumo sacerdote que nos convinha: santo, inocente, sem mancha, separado dos pecadores e elevado acima dos céus. 27Ele não precisa, como os sumos sacerdotes, oferecer sacrifícios em cada dia, primeiro por seus próprios pecados e depois pelos do povo. Ele já o fez uma vez por todas, oferecendo-se a si mesmo. 28A Lei, com efeito, constituiu sumos sacerdotes sujeitos à fraqueza, enquanto a palavra do juramento, que veio depois da Lei, constituiu alguém que é Filho, perfeito para sempre. 8,1O tema mais importante da nossa exposição é este: temos um sumo sacerdote tão grande, que se assentou à direita do trono da majestade, nos céus. 2Ele é ministro do santuário e da tenda verdadeira, armada pelo Senhor, e não por mão humana. 3Todo sumo sacerdote, com efeito, é constituído para oferecer dádivas e sacrifícios; portanto, é necessário que tenha algo a oferecer. 4Na verdade, se Cristo estivesse na terra, não seria nem mesmo sacerdote, pois já existem os que oferecem dádivas de acordo com a Lei. 5Estes celebram um culto que é cópia e sombra das realidades celestes, como foi dito a Moisés, quando estava para executar a construção da tenda: “Vê, faze tudo segundo o modelo que te foi mostrado sobre a montanha”. 6Agora, porém, Cristo possui um ministério superior. Pois ele é o mediador de uma aliança bem melhor, baseada em promessas melhores. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos – Naquele tempo, 7Jesus se retirou para a beira do mar junto com seus discípulos. Muita gente da Galileia o seguia. 8E também muita gente da Judeia, de Jerusalém, da Idumeia, do outro lado do Jordão, dos territórios de Tiro e Sidônia foi até Jesus, porque tinham ouvido falar de tudo o que ele fazia. 9Então Jesus pediu aos discípulos que lhe providenciassem uma barca, por causa da multidão, para que não o comprimisse. 10Com efeito, Jesus tinha curado muitas pessoas, e todos os que sofriam de algum mal jogavam-se sobre ele para tocá-lo. 11Vendo Jesus, os espíritos maus caíam a seus pés, gritando: “Tu és o Filho de Deus!” 12Mas Jesus ordenava severamente para não dizerem quem ele era. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão:

Os sinais maravilhosos realizados por Jesus atraíam multidões de todas as partes da Palestina. Todos acorriam a ele para serem curados, a ponto de os discípulos temerem pela sua segurança e prepararem uma estratégia que hoje chamaríamos de “saída de emergência”. Jesus, porém, continua sua missão, incansável, na sinagoga, nas casas ou à beira do lago. Ninguém é excluído, nem mesmo seus adversários. Fato curioso é que são os espíritos impuros a reconhecerem a divindade de Jesus, proclamando: “Tu és o Filho de Deus!”, enquanto os judeus viam-no apenas como uma espécie de “curandeiro” ou, na melhor das hipóteses, como profeta. Ainda não era chegada a hora. Seria preciso muito tempo para ser aceito e reconhecido como o caminho, a verdade e a vida, o Messias esperado.
