God is willing to dialogue with his people; in turn, the people need to purify themselves to meet the Lord. This is a fitting motivation for the act of penitence, so that we may celebrate the paschal mystery of Christ in intimacy with him.

First Reading: Exodus 19:1-2, 9-11, 16-20

Reading from the Book of Exodus – 1On the third month after their exodus from Egypt, Israel came to the Desert of Sinai. 2They set out from Rephidim and came to the Desert of Sinai, where they camped. Israel pitched their tents there, facing the mountain. 9The Lord said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak to you and may believe you forever.” 10 When Moses had told the people what they had said to the Lord, the Lord said to him, “Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes 11 and be ready for the third day, for on that day the Lord will come down before all the people on Mount Sinai.” 16 When the morning dawned on the third day, there were peals of thunder and lightning. A thick cloud covered the mountain, and a loud trumpet blast resounded. Reflection:

Today's Gospel presents some fundamental elements for understanding Jesus' pedagogy. The first is that Jesus spoke to the heart. Parables are narratives that touch us because they are rich in timeless imagery and always carry a powerful moral and symbolic charge. They are a pedagogical tool widely used in the Bible, especially in the wisdom books. Through comparisons, narratives, or descriptions, they reveal or illustrate aspects of life, always conveying a profound truth that provokes the listener. In chapter 13 of Matthew, we find seven parables and some explanations, such as the one offered in today's liturgy.

Quem me protege e me ampara é meu Deus; é o Senhor quem sustenta minha vida. Quero ofertar-vos o meu sacrifício de coração e com muita alegria (Sl 53,6.8).

Deus se dispõe a dialogar com seu povo; por sua vez, o povo precisa purificar-se para ir ao encontro do Senhor. Eis uma justa motivação para o ato penitencial, a fim de celebrarmos o mistério pascal de Cristo na intimidade com ele.

Primeira Leitura: Êxodo 19,1-2.9-11.16-20

Leitura do livro do Êxodo – 1No dia em que se cumpriam três meses da saída do Egito, Israel chegou ao deserto do Sinai. 2Partindo de Rafidim, chegaram ao deserto do Sinai, onde acamparam. Israel armou ali suas tendas, defronte da montanha. 9E o Senhor falou a Moisés: “Virei a ti numa nuvem escura, para que o povo ouça quando eu falar contigo e creia sempre em ti”. 10Tendo Moisés transmitido ao Senhor as palavras do povo, o Senhor lhe disse: “Vai ao povo e santifica-os hoje e amanhã. Eles devem lavar as suas vestes 11e estar prontos para o terceiro dia, pois nesse dia o Senhor descerá diante de todo o povo sobre a montanha do Sinai”. 16Quando chegou o terceiro dia, ao raiar da manhã, houve trovões e relâmpagos. Uma nuvem espessa cobriu a montanha, e um fortíssimo som de trombetas se fez ouvir. No acampamento o povo se pôs a tremer. 17Moisés fez o povo sair do acampamento ao encontro de Deus, e eles pararam ao pé da montanha. 18Todo o monte Sinai fumegava, pois o Senhor descera sobre ele em meio ao fogo. Reflexão:

O Evangelho de hoje apresenta alguns elementos fundamentais para compreendermos a pedagogia de Jesus. O primeiro é que Jesus falava ao coração. As parábolas são narrações que nos tocam por serem ricas em imagens atemporais e terem sempre uma carga moral e simbólica muito forte. São instrumento pedagógico muito utilizado na Bíblia, especialmente nos livros sapienciais. Através de comparações, narrativas ou descritivas, revelam ou ilustram aspectos da vida, trazendo sempre uma verdade profunda, que provoca o ouvinte. No capítulo 13 de Mateus, encontramos sete parábolas e algumas explicações, como a que a liturgia de hoje nos propõe.
